Air Quality advisories.....

Don't you remember back in the good old days when we stayed in all summer because there were Air Quality advisories or Ozone alerts.....NO? Me either! Will I have stay in with my asthmatic child also summer huddling in the corner hoping to protect her from breathing in the toxic air?
We went to my SIL's on Tuesday to spend the day in their pool (yes, I did venture in even with the memory of my waterfall experience from the day before!). We put on sunblock to protect us from sunburn and UV rays, the little guys put on life jackets so they would not drown, we watched them carefully afterwards to make sure they weren't going to "Dry Drown" (a real term, look it up! My SIL saw a lady on a news show whose son had died hours after swimming from dry drowning, scary stuff!) and then on the way home, my daughter starts experiencing a pretty bad asthma attack brought on by the bad air quality from the forest fires in the area (and yes that was fires plural). For the last few days, they have been issuing advisories for the elderly and those with breathing problems to stay inside due to the smoke in the air. We had to skip a planned trip to the water park the next day with our friends because she just wasn't back up to snuff yet. When does it stop? We want to wrap our kids in cotton to protect them and then find out that cotton is toxic or it was made in China and has been made with asbestos instead of cotton.....I know this is an exageration but it seems that raising kids in today's world is a mine field. You try to avoid one problem only to get blown up by another one.
The book my peeps and I are reading now has also brought this subject to the forefront of my mind. I will not go into it any more than that since many of my peeps read this and have not yet started the book, but if you get a chance and are looking for a good summer read, buy "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodie Picoult. It is the first book I have read by her but it is very good so far.

Oh, and for those of you wondering....we have not made any progress with our stubborn little man in the potty training department. He is still wetting and then saying he need to go potty.
I have not given up hope yet.....
